Semi Custom Kitchen Cabinets

Semi Custom Kitchen cabinets are very similar to the Entry Level cabinets. The construction of Semi Custom cabinets is usually the same as the Entry Level, however manufacturers will allow you to make changes to the cabinets, for an upgrade charge, which will depend the alterations desired. The most common change here in the Albany area is in the size of a cabinet.

The construction of Semi Custom cabinets may change as some manufacturers offer only ½" plywood boxes for the sides, tops and bottoms. Most will still use a ¼" back but some do offer a 3/8" back. Regardless of the thickness of the back, hanging/fastening strips are still required for proper cabinet installation.

The Semi-Custom category can be tricky to navigate since the construction is usually very similar to Entry Level cabinets, but the benchmark price is higher to start and then you have to pay additional upcharges for "custom" sized cabinets.

The advantage to Semi-Custom cabinets is that most manufacturers will generally offer a greater selection of woods, colors and door style which you may not be able to find in basic cabinets. Many Semi Custom cabinets are mass produced on a made to order basis.

Drawers are generally the same as Entry Level cabinets and made of solid wood with a ¼" bottom. Standard drawer track is generally a full extension track with a soft close option upgrade though some manufacturers may offer the soft close function as the standard.

Installation of Semi Custom cabinets is similar to the Entry Level category, although it can be more complicated depending on selected upgrades. The lead time for obtaining the cabinets from the time the order is placed until they are ready to be delivered is similar to Entry Level cabinets which is usually in the 4 to 6 week range. Generally the cost of the an average Albany Capital District kitchen will range from $5,500 to $10,000+ depending upon style, wood and amenities selected.
